The municipality of Holargos is one of the oldest municipalities in Attica and Pericles homebirth. It is located at the north east of the city of Athens on the foot of Hymettus mountain. It extends to 350 Ha and its population is approximately 57,000 inhabitants. Holargos is regarded as residential area, self sufficient in commerce, administration, education, recreation and culture.
The Municipal Enterprise of Holargos, which is the beneficiary of the project, operates on the premises of the City Hall, falling under the legal status of a non-profitable, purely municipal enterprise. An administrative Council of 9 members is responsible for the enterprise’s operation. For the enterprise’s needs the Municipality poses a 300 m2 building space in the City Hall for offices and meeting rooms.

Municipality Enterprise of Holargos actions
One of the main activities of the Municipal Enterprise is the actions towards the Sustainable Development: Municipal Enterprise of Holargos supports the activities for Habitat (Local) Agenda 21 in North East Attica of 21 municipalities. It has also participated in a Life project in cooperation with neighbour municipalities for the protection and reforestation of Hymettus mountain. A programme about “Energy Saving” has also been implemented together with the 2nd high school of Holargos, finding out the alternative sources of energy and the protection of resources for sustainable development.
In the frame of continuous vocational training, it has implemented since 1999 four programmes attended by unemployed young individuals.
It has also taken part in European Union programmes, such as Horizon, Youthstart, Now, promoting the easier access of people with special needs to the job market, a guidance of connecting young people with the needs of the local job market and also a support to women who would like to activate in the job market. Besides, by participating at “Pacte” program, it broadened the co-operation and the exchange of experiences between cities of the European Union referring especially to the fields of Governmental services, organization and administration of natural development, transportations, research and technology, environment, energy and tourism by organizing and contributing in several transnational meetings across Europe (France, Italy, Spain, Portugal etc.)
Furthermore, it organises seminars concerning modern forms of investments, health, social and environmental problems. It also participates every year in the European car free day. |

EPTA LTD (SUBCONTRACTOR)
EPTA LTD specializes in the field of Environmental Management as an Engineering Consultant. It was established in 1995 by engineers and scientists with significant relevant experience in the public and private sector. At present, EPTA consists of all types of engineers with specialization and experience on environmental, energy and sustainable development issues at national and European level.
EPTA LTD provides technical consulting services, integrated solutions for solid waste management and wastewater treatment, implements Environmental Management Systems (EMAS & ISO 14001) and promotes the implementation of new technologies in the environmental field.
EPTA participates in a European partnership with other consultancies from EU countries focusing on providing services for sustainable development worldwide. Furthermore, it undertakes the planning, the implementation and the co-ordination of innovative European Programmes in co-operation with public and private bodies in Greece and other European countries.
EPTA co-operates with all the Organisations of Local Authorities and has an advisory role in several aspects such as sustainable development and environmental management. Some of the projects that EPTA has undertaken in the field of climate protection include:
TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF CRETE (SUBCONTRACTOR)
Environmental Management Sector is part of the Environmental Engineering Department of the Technical University of Crete, which is a modern technological institution that has established an admirable reputation both in Greece and abroad.
Environmental Management sector is in charge of the Air, Water and Solid Wastes Management Laboratory. The laboratory was established by Professor Alexander Economopoulos in 1997 with the objective of promoting fundamental and applied research in the areas of environmental control technology and management. To meet these requirements, the laboratory comprises computer infrastructure for modelling environmental systems and developing databases. It is also equipped with modern laboratory instruments for the verification and calibration of model predictions, for the regulation of control installations, and instruments such as NDIR, chemiluminescence and galvanic cells (HORIBA, PG-250) for the monitoring of gaseous emissions (SO2, NO, NO2, CO, CO2 and O2) and ambient air quality.
The staff of the laboratory has experience in and has managed projects related to air emissions such as Formulation of the First Official 5-year Air Pollution Abatement Plan (1986-90) for the Greater Athens Area (Ministry of Environment, DG XI, UNDP), Inventory of Industrial Emissions at the National Level / Assessment of Emission Loads from Major Industrial Sectors (Ministry of Environment), Baseline Study in Support of Emission Standards for the European Cement and Lime Manufacturing Industry (DG XI).
